Incentives for Motion Picture and Television Production
 
The District of Columbia offers a competitive incentive program, providing subsidies for motion picture and television production.
 
Highlights of the District of Columbia Film Incentive:
  • 42% of qualified production expenditures taxable in the District
  • 21% of qualified production expenditures not taxable in the District
  • 30% of qualified personnel expenditures
  • 50% of qualified job training expenditures
  • 25% of infrastructure investments
To qualify, a production company must spend at least $250,000 in the District for the development, preproduction, production, or postproduction costs of a qualified production; file an application, and enter into an incentive agreement; and not be delinquent in any tax obligation owed to DC.

Fee-Free Locations
 
The Government of the District of Columbia has a diverse portfolio of property and buildings available for motion picture and television productions including government buildings, schools, offices, warehouses, recreation centers, parks and even residential properties. Many are available at minimal or no charge.
